LOASys (Legal Office Automation Systems) is the first of its kind; a combination of speech recognition and document creation with digital dictation at the front end.   It is extremely easy to operate and saves an incredible amount of time, effort and cost in the production of documents. It has already been adopted by many forward thinking law firms across the UK.

Authors dictate in their preferred way, a microphone wired to their computer or a portable digital recorder. The working practices of the author can remain relatively unchanged and familiar.

The digital capture of their dictation is transmitted to a speech processing computer on the network which automatically turns it into text.  Now for the clever bit….The text is placed into a fully formatted document populated with the recipient’s details with appropriate references, it is also saved automatically and can easily be retrieved at any time along with other correspondence relevant to that client. The system receives the information that it needs to do this either from the author selecting a document type and Client/Matter number at the dictation end or the editor at the completion end. This editor can be an assistant/secretary or the author them self.

Standard:  LOASys has a simple user interface showing

• recording status
• local drafts not yet sent for processing
• last 50 days dictation history
• server jobs list - pending work / finished work (last 30 days)
• authors can access dictations and documents

Thin Client:  LOASys under Citrix / Terminal Services works exactly the same as under a fat client environment.

Remote working:  Authors can work on computers not connected to the network.  The dictation interface suppresses the 'Send', 'Job List'. 'Browse' buttons and 'Client Name / Matter Description' boxes.    Jobs are 'sent' to 'Drafts' when complete.  Once an internet connection is available the jobs can be uploaded to the Author's LOASys system with a single click. 

Portable working:  High quality digital voice recorders can be used with LOASys, for example the Olympus DS-3400, DS-5000 and Philips 9600.  The LOASys DSS upload program sites on the device allowing uploading of dictations to the local standard interface as 'Drafts' or with a network connection present directly to the workflow system with or without Speech Recognition.

The full LOASys product costs per fee earner per month £130 plus VAT (based on lease terms over 36 months)

This works out at £30 per week, £6 per day, 15p per minute of dictation based upon an average of 40 minutes per day.  Typically outsourced transcription equates to approximately £1 per minute and more.
