ClaroRead has been developed to help PC users of all capabilities create, read, view and check text. The software is closely integrated with Microsoft applications, with particular emphasis on Microsoft Word.
With ClaroRead Plus, you can also scan any paper document or convert a PDF and have it spoken back with complete clarity.

There are a number of versions of ClaroRead, to see which best suits your requirements please see comparision document The 'Plus' version has all the Standard features but also converts scanned documents and PDF/image files into text using the integrated OmniPage 16 Scan and OCR engine, echoes text dictated using Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition software (not supplied within the package), and includes 2 additional voices – Sangeeta and William (UK Edition). The Premium edition also includes the ClaroRead Standard Mobile USB stick.

Speak any Text
ClaroRead speaks back text as it is typed allowing easy checking and proof reading. Text can be spoken at any point by highlighting individual sections of text and pressing play. A choice of male or female human sounding voices give clarity and voice choice.
Simplification of Microsoft Word
ClaroRead provides a single toolbar for use in Microsoft Word that combines a test to speech player, scan and PDF convert function, homophone and tricky word dictionary, font and spacing commands, a thesaurus, spell checker button and a save to audio or video function. All have clear graphic icons.
Improving Word Selection
Homophones are automatically underlined and highlighted to support users in checking the appropriate word is used. Alternative words with their definitions are provided to aid choice.
Reading and Colour Support Tools
Reading is made easier with ClaroRead software's combined reading ruler and colour overlay horizontal bar, ScreenRuler. This tool highlights and enlarges both the letters and background of each line of text.
Writing Support
ClaroRead contains a word predictor that learns as you type and can be tailored to specific topics.
Converts Paper and PDF to Text
ClaroRead Plus includes powerful Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology which means that any paper document or PDF file becomes accessible. Textbooks, photocopies and handouts are easily converted into Word documents. The text can then be spoken back through ClaroRead and edited.
Layout Assistance
ClaroRead's integration with Word and Internet Explorer simplifies changing the look of a document. This permits one click changes to font and spacing with minimum keyboard and mouse use.
Multi Sensory Learning
Students or teachers can convert text to audio or video files. Any text can be saved as an audio or video file for phones or music players.
Close Integration with Dragon
ClaroRead works alongside Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 and 10 to allow hands free dictation and proofreading of text. The unique echo back feature within ClaroRead Plus instantly speaks back the text you have dictated with Dragon.

Students get support in over 25 languages using ClaroRead add-on voices. Both English students and English speakers learning another language can listen to a document, test paper or web page with a high quality human voice.

Visual Highlighting
A focus sentence feature greys out sentences in MS Word not being spoken by ClaroRead. This helps in focusing the eye and tracking the position in the document,. The word trail feature also allows words to colour progressively as they are spoken by ClaroRead.
Readable Font
The Tiresias family of fonts have been designed for optimum accessibility and usability.
Research and Capture Information
The new ClaroCapture programme included with V5 allows you to collect text from any document or web page, grouping it as a project file. The research file can be sent to MS Word or PowerPoint. A great study skills tool.
Scanning Paper and Converting PDF Files
ClaroRead Plus V5 uses the updated Omnipage 16 engine providing faster and more accurate scanning including a preview function allowing you to add, delete and re-order scanned areas.
Word Checking
Word check gives extra definitions, context for the current spelling and a google search link. Any corrections made in the ClaroRead spellcheck window are remembered and can be reviewed.
New Voices
Two additional voices have been added to ClaroRead V5.
- Definition Tooltip - The speaking dictionary feature in version 5 allows you to obtain a word definition by holding down the control key and hovering the mouse over a chosen word. The tool tip will show English dictionary definitions as well as a Google look up button should you require further information.
- Check Anywhere - Permits you to spellcheck text in any type of application (web or PC application). Simply highlight the chosen word and click 'check' on the Claro toolbar
- ClaroUp - New software update so ClaroRead will automatically check for updates available for your software
- ClaroCapture V2 - Has been fully updated with improved image and screen capturing
- Advanced Settings Editor - allowing setting to be saved and restored (helpful if moving Pc's or distributing custom prediction dictionary)
- Word Prediction - the software now learns as you type in Word giving you greater speed and accuracy when typing using Word Prediction
- Prediction Training - Now includes word count, ability to rename and delete prediction dictionaries, export word lists and to turn off spellcheck when adding words
